Betty Hale, of Riverhead, died Jan. 12, 2012 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 88 years old.

Born in Cumberland, Virginia, she was the daughter of Bertha (Goff) and Andrew Langhorne.

Mrs. Hale worked at a duck farm in Eastport. She and her husband John raised a family of eight children.

Predeceased by her husband in 1973, she is survived by her sons, John Jr., of Riverhead, Monroe, of upstate New York, Bishop Harrison Hale, of Gordon Heights; by her daughters, Roxine, Evangelist Dora Hargrove, Mary E. Miles, Rosa Palmore and Ardell Highsmith, all of Riverhead. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert, Russell, Bernard, Tom and Sherman Langhorne and was predeceased by her brothers, James and Garfield Langhorne. Mrs. Hale is survived by 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 7-9 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Riverhead, 1018 Northville Turnpike, Riverhead. A service will be held at the church on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m., the Rev. Charles Coverdale officiating. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home of Riverhead.
