An Alcholic Beverage Control Law enforcement sweep by New York State Police netted two arrests in Riverhead last Wednesday.

Troopers arrested Ravinder Parkash, age 58, (left) of Riverhead, for allegedly selling alcohol to a minor at the USA Gas Food Mart, 415 East Main St., Riverhead at 7:30 p.m. on April 25, according to a police report. Parkash was a cashier in the store, police said.

Parkash was taken into custody and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child, 1st Degree (A Misdemeanor), and ABC Law Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Minor (Misdemeanor), police said.

At 8 p.m. on the same day, troopers arrested Heriberto Jerez-Gutierrez, age 36, (right) of Coram at MG Deli located at 999 East Main St., Riverhead.

Jerez-Guitierrez was arrested for Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree (A Misdemeanor), and ABC Law Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Minor (Misdemeanor), police said.

The underage drinking initiative by troopers targets store clerks that sell alcoholic beverages to minors, police said.  Troopers will utilize an underage subject to purchase the alcoholic beverages.
